In response to the state of the economy and the number of Indiana military personnel on active duty, the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis is providing a free week of overnight camp at Flat Rock River YMCA Camp in St. Paul, Indiana, for 300 Central Indiana children of unemployed parents and deployed military personnel. This is a $500 value, per child, being offered at no cost to families on a first come, first-served basis.
“The YMCA has always made our programs and services available to those in the community regardless of their ability to pay,” said Eric Ellsworth, President/CEO, YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. “Offering a free week of camp to area children is just another opportunity for our organization to respond to the pressing needs in our community,” added Ellsworth.
A campership for a free week of overnight camp at Flat Rock River YMCA Camp could be an incredible opportunity and a blessing for a family stressed by job loss, reduction in work hours, or military deployment. Parents will be able to feel a sense of relief that their financial/work situation isn’t denying their kids a special summer experience. And kids will have a week of fun, new friends, new skills, and adventure – away from the family’s worries.
Please think about the families you know – neighbors, Y members, relatives, friends who may be going through tough times right now – especially those who have had work hours cut, job losses, and or military deployment – and reach out to them with this opportunity. Sometimes a personal nudge is all it takes for people who are not accustomed to asking for things for free….you’ll be doing them a great favor.
Act now while there are still camperships available. For more information about the free week of camp at Flat Rock River YMCA Camp, visit www.indymca.org or call 888-828-9622.
If you have any questions – call Steve Heiny or Melinda Williamson at camp or Tangela Floyd or me at the Association Office!
Now – get out and spread the word!!!! Thanks!
