Join the Green Team

Applications Now Available For Those Interested In Participating in the Greening of the City-County Building

Mayor Greg Ballard welcomed more than 100 volunteers on Friday at a meeting to kickoff the Greening of the City-County Building.

The initiative, announced last Monday as part of the City’s ‘Green Week’, will involve coordinating teams of local experts who will volunteer their time to make recommendations to increase the energy efficiency of the decades old City-County Building. The local experts will also recommend practices and policies to help make the building and its ongoing operations more sustainable.

“This is a significant undertaking, but it is one of both practical and symbolic importance,” said Mayor Ballard. “When complete, greening the building will translate into savings for taxpayers, and it will transform the hub of local government into a leaner, greener structure that reflects our community’s commitment to sustainability.”

The Rocky Mountain Institute, a national leader in green building design will lead the project using a model that incorporates citizen engagement in every step of the process. Following Friday’s informational meeting, the City is seeking applications from local experts interested in serving on the Green CCB Development Team.

Applications are available at www.sustainindy.org and must be completed by May 8, 2009. Applicants must also be able to participate in a 2-day session with the Rocky Mountain Institute in Indianapolis on June 9 and 10, 2009.
