Improper Basketball Goal Placement a Foul!

Spring's arrival means surge in public right of way violations

Every spring a flurry of March Madness inspired basketball goals are set up, only to be removed due to improper placement. It is important when putting up your outdoor goal to keep in mind regulations concerning the public right of away.

City Ordinance Sec. 391-102 mandates that no structure shall be made or used in any manner which could present a nuisance or danger to the public health and safety. Goals which obstruct the city's right of way are in violation of the code.

Basketball goals found to be in violation of the city ordinance are required to be removed and the right of way must be restored back to original conditions. Failure to comply will result in the removal of the goal by the city, at which point it will be stored for 30 days before disposal.

If you suspect that a basketball goal is in the public right of way or for more information, call the Mayor's Action Center at 317-327-4MAC (4622).
