Indianapolis Community Building Institute

Time to Sign UP for ICBI
in Fountain Square
***
Through a progressive 3-track curriculum, the Indianapolis Community Building Institute offers an intensive, experiential program that explores ideas and develops practical skills necessary for effective neighborhood leaders. ICBI is designed for residents who are active in their neighborhood or are wanting to be active. Some examples include: block clubs, neighborhood associations, resident councils, homeowners associations, faith-based organizations, beautification projects, schools/parent teacher organizations and crime watches.
*
The first track of ICBI will be covered on two Saturdays at Fountain Square Library: from 9 AM to 3 PM with breakfast and lunch furnished. We already have almost enough potential participants to schedule the class. Please let us know of your interest so we can tell INRC that we have 15 enrollees!

Spruce Street Median

Something we can all share!

On Saturday, April 19, 2006, the Spruce Street Squad Crimewatch and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful will partner to beautify the median located at the intersection of Spruce Street and Pleasant Run Parkway South Drive. Volunteers from the neighborhood will work from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon to install the landscaping features outlined in the plan which was developed by the group and professionally enhanced by a landscape architect selected by Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. Landscaping materials used in this project will be provided by Keep Indianapolis Beautiful through grant funds provided by an IPL Project Greenspace Grant.

“Since this median acts as an entrance way to the Spruce Street neighborhood, beautifying it will help to increase and promote awareness about quality of life,” says Shirley Ooley, Spruce Street Squad member and project promoter. Once the project is completed, The Spruce Street Squad will then be responsible for maintaining and watering of the median.

The project will involve about 15 to 20 volunteers from Spruce Street and the surrounding area. Box lunches will be served to all of the volunteers and a comfort station will be set up at the site. Other light refreshments will also be served to residents who just want to stop by and visit.

For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, contact Shirley Ooley at 317-787-2295.
New Southeast District Commander

Hello!

By way of introduction, I am Cliff Myers. I was appointed as your Southeast District commander last Friday. As a 20 year member of the police department, I started my career in 1988 with the Indianapolis Police Department. My first nine years were spent on the eastside of Indianapolis as a patrol officer. I have worked in Narcotics, general investigations, SWAT, Administration, Covert Investigations Commander, and most recently as the Assistant Chief of Operations. I am a south-side resident and my wife and I have three children.

The Southeast-side of Indianapolis is a wonderful place to live and raise a family, but we do have much work to do to stem the tide of crime. Our job is to work closely with you and provide you the service that you expect and deserve.

Our dedicated Crime Watch staff is made up of Officer Jo Starrett (327-6366) and Ms. Ann Westropp (327-6365). Jo and Ann are a tremendous resource for you. We want and need your support.

I look forward to meeting each of you and working closely with you. Call with questions or concerns.

My number is 327-6300
