Dot Dot Dot…
Alchemy Art + Aesthetics
Opening October 3, 2008

Alchemy Art + Aesthetics presents Dot Dot Dot…, a new site-specific work by Ken Nurenberg. A minimalist piece with conceptual overtones, the installation will take over Alchemy's entire exhibition space and challenge viewers' perception and interpretation of their visual environment. …There's also going to be lots of pink…manly pink.

Ken is a senior at the Herron School of Art. Dot Dot Dot… will be his second time exhibiting at Alchemy, previously showing in the three-artist show Relativ(isms) last February. This exhibition will be his first solo show in Indianapolis. Opening reception Friday, October 3 from 7pm to midnight.

Call for Artists

CALL FOR ARTISTS to create a proposal for installation of outdoor public art on the Bates Hendricks Esplanade on 1400 & 1500 blocks south New Jersey Street, Indianapolis, for the month of August, 2008 and during the SEND Fab for Less event August 23 & 24.

Artists should live or work in the SEND area of Indianapolis, which is bounded by Washington Street on the north, Madison Street on the west, Raymond Street on the south and Sherman to Pleasant Run to Keystone on the east.

  • Artists should use primarily recycled or natural materials.
  • Artists should relate their art to the history of the Bates Hendricks area. It is strongly advised that artists visit the site at South New Jersey Street. History and landscape plan are available on the SEND website at www.sendcdc.org.
  • Art should be suitable for all of the public.
  • There is no fee to enter a proposal.
  • Two artists will be chosen based on proposals by a jury of SEND public art committee members and neighborhood residents.
  • The 2 artists chosen will each receive a $400 stipend.
  • The art will be installed by August 3, 2008 and should remain until August 31. It should be able to withstand the usual Indianapolis August weather.

Proposals must be received by May 31, 2008.

Proposals should include drawings and a brief description of the artwork.

Include name, address, phone, and email. Artists may include up to three pictures of past or current work.

Send proposals to Susan Beauchamp at beauartnow@yahoo.com or mail to

The goal of the Fab for Less event is to raise funds for SEND, a community development corporation, whose mission is to revitalize the southeast side of Indianapolis and to improve the quality of life for its diverse spectrum of residents. Secondary goals are to raise awareness of SEND, the southeast neighborhoods, the potential of the residents, and to have a venue for resident artists. The 2008 event is focused on the Bates Hendricks neighborhood, which has historical significance. Fab for Less will benefit not only the residents of the Bates Hendricks Neighborhood, but the hundreds of visitors who will be attracted to the event. Event visitors of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds will be introduced to work of local artists and by displaying the works of art for one month, local residents will have plenty of opportunities to view and enjoy these installations. The funds raised will help SEND to continue to revitalize the southeast area of Indianapolis. Past investment has resulted in more than 130 affordable homes, more than 400 homes repaired, and 135 apartment units, as well as 150,000 square feet of renovated commercial space, six parks, hundreds of trees, and several works of public art.

The Beacon Fund of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis sponsors this artwork.

IMA "On Procession" Parade

Community "paint out"
***
SUNDAY, APRIL 13
12:00-3:00 pm

Here is a chance for the entire community to be a part of the IMA Art on Procession Parade on April 26:

A group called Us By Numbers , headed by Doug Arnholter (http://www.usbynumbers.com) has put together a mural project for the Fountain Square community, designed to be presented at the Art on Procession Art Parade on Saturday, April 26. But first...

...it must be painted BY the community! That's where we all come in. I'm trying to put together, as Doug calls it, a community "paint out" on SUNDAY, APRIL 13 from 12:00-3:00 pm.

We want to give folks a chance to participate in an inaugural project for community pride, service and fun. This is a 4' x 40' canvas imprinted with digitally reproduced images of Fountain Square, which have been transferred to a paint-by-number format. It's fun and easy! Weather permitting, it will be unrolled and ready to work on in the main FS parking lot on Shelby Street. (in case of rain, we may be able to move it indoors). All the paints and brushes will be supplied, just come in your paintin' clothes and have a great time!

Then don't forget to see it in action at the Art on Procession Parade sponsored by the Indianapolis Museum of Art, on Saturday the 26th right here in Fountain Square!

Please feel free to forward this information and share with local churches, schools and community groups. It's short notice, but a great opportunity to participate!
