A wide variety of activities are planned in which parents and children will work as a team. There will be a costume parade and a dance contest along with good food. The event is free to the community.

Parents As Teachers

Parents As Teachers Program is Looking for Marion County Families

I am seeking new families for Parents As Teachers. This is a program that will increase parent knowledge of child development and help them learn appropriate ways to stimulate their child's intellectual, language, social and physical development. If you are working with a family or know of someone that could benefit from PAT services, please let me know. I am especially looking for Marion County children between the ages of 2 to 5. The family would only have to commit to 1 hour per month but will see great progress in the development of their child/children through this program. Thank you so much for helping me tell families about this great program.

THE CANAL & WHITE RIVER STATE PARK CULTURAL DISTRICT INVITES YOU TO THE CANAL FAMILYFEST ON THE 4TH

The City of Indianapolis and Buggs Special Events will play host to the Seventh Annual 4th of July Canal FamilyFest

When: July 4th 5:00pm to Dusk

Where: Downtown canal walk and White River State Park

Free activities: Airbrush face painter, caricature artist, clowns creating balloon animals, jugglers; Fireworks set to begin at dusk

Food: Buggs Temple will have hamburgers, hot dogs and corn on the cob for sale at Ohio Street. Other food vendors will be located along the canal.

Accessibility: Events on the canal are accessible to persons with disabilities through the Indiana Historical Society, The Indiana State Museum, the Eiteljorg Museum or through evaluators at the intersection of Indiana Avenue and Michigan Street and on the north side of New York Street near West street.

A Note from IMPD

A Note from IMPD's Major Cliff Myers..........

You may have heard in the news that about 2,300 Marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit -- based in Camp Lejuene, N.C. -- will be using various locations throughout the city for their Realistic Urban Training Exercise from June 4 to 19.

While some of the activity will take place aboard Camp Atterbury, residents in many areas can expect to see helicopters flying overhead, military vehicles on the roads and Marines patrolling on foot.

Landing sites include Eastgate Mall, Brookside Park, Ellenberger Park, Christian Park, Southeastway Park, Bush Stadium and Douglass Park. Please keep an eye out for our armed forces.

School is out for the summer.
Please keep an eye on our kids!

We are putting together a fundraiser for Shepherd Community Center. There are 50 tickets remaining for those that would like to come and show their support for Shepherd Community Center at 4107 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46201.

What: One Can Make A Difference Fundraiser for Shepherd Community Center

Where: The Oak Hill Mansion • 5801 E. 116th St. , Carmel , IN 46033

When: Thursday June 5, 2008 Silent Auction begins at 6:00 PM, Dinner at 7:00 PM.

You must RSVP by June 1st - There are currently a limited number of tickets available at no cost - due to the generosity of our event sponsors.

Why: Around 550 women and children have been integrated into Shepherd Community Center’s programs that were previously served by Indianapolis-based Wheeler Mission Ministries. Last February, Wheeler moved back to their focus, which is providing goods and services to the homeless, poor and needy of Central Indiana. Shepherd, whose mission is to aid families and children on Indianapolis’ near east side, has begun integrating these individuals into their existing continuum of care. This has created some significant funding needs for Shepherd. Our goal is to raise awareness of those needs and help off-set them through a fundraiser, “One Can Make A Difference”. We hope you will consider attending the fundraiser or donating directly to Shepherd Community Center and aid their mission to break the cycle of poverty.

Hello Everyone,

I am contacting you today because Habitat is looking to build on 1613 Ingram, 2353 and 2357 Sheldon, within the next few months and I do not have any families for these addresses! I was wondering if any of you have someone who you feel would be perfect for our program and those address. Even if they are a little over or under or income requirements but have good credit, I am open to meeting with them. They don't even need to come to an orientation at this point. The deadline to find a family for 1613 Ingram is in 2 weeks and if we don't find a family then we may have to postpone the build and we do not want to do that. We know there is a deserving family in the Indianapolis area that needs a home.

If you have someone, again, just have them call me directly, ask for me, and have them mention that they are interested in 1613 Ingram (or the other lots, but specifically right now 1613 Ingram).

I appreciate your help in referring families to Habitat!

Southeast Resident Facilitators

The WHAT:
Need for 12 facilitators from Southeast to facilitate conversations and meet families and friends that attend the Neighborhood Ice Cream Social hosted by SENSE. The conversations consist of asking families their interests and participation with future Family Network Nights.


The WHEN: Saturday, May 10, 2008


The TIME: 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Assignments and instruction information begins at 10:40 a.m.

The WHERE:1601 South Barth Avenue

The HOW: Mingling through the event and engage in short conversation with at least 4 families (questions listed below) on what their interests are and how to make family network nights a value to them and their children.

3) We want to continue these types of neighborhood family activities and given what you’ve seen today (food, fun, games, a relaxed atmosphere, music, resources)………………

4) Considering what you know about other family nights, what would you like to see added to this one in our neighborhood? (for example: what type of resources, more scheduled family time activities, what type of family supports activities, parenting ideas) ?

5) We need parents to help with the planning of these neighborhood family activities. Can you help (no more than 2-3 hours every other month) to plan Family Network Night? We will have childcare, dinner and transportation?
