Please Join Mayor Greg Ballard

In Partnership with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful

And PLEDGE TO PITCH IN!

Mayor Ballard is asking all citizens to “Pledge to Pitch In” in April by recruiting friends and family to pick up litter and beautify your area.

Once you’ve filled your bag, just place it at your curb for your weekly trash pick-up and bask in the great feeling that YOU helped make a difference in your community.

Please also take a moment to visit our website or call 327-5300 and let us know what area you plan to help clean up!

Town Hall Meeting on Foreclosure Crisis

Congressman carson to host town hall meeting

Foreclosure crisis will be focal point of public event

Congressman André Carson will host a local town hall meeting in mid-April focused on the housing foreclosure crisis and the actions of both the president and Congress to help struggling homeowners.

WHEN: Tuesday, April 14, 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: George Washington Community School, 2215 West Washington St. Indianapolis, IN

The public town hall will offer an opportunity for residents to discuss the foreclosure issue with Congressman Carson. The event also will feature a number of local experts from the housing and finance sectors who can help residents better understand options available under the President's new Making Home Affordable plan.

"The foreclosure crisis is devastating families and neighborhoods in Indianapolis and across our country," said Congressman Carson. "Through the actions of President Obama and Congress, there's a plan in motion right now to help struggling homeowners. It's now our responsibility to provide information to residents about how to access these resources, inquire about eligibility for mortgage restructuring, and avoid becoming victims of a growing number of scam attempts."

IHPC Rain Barrel Policy

Rain Barrel Policy

Greetings Historic Neighborhood Leaders–

It has recently come to our attention that several neighborhoods are undertaking efforts to teach residents about rain barrels and provide assistance with installation of barrels. While IHPC Policies and Procedures speak generally to review procedures for installation of utility and mechanical equipment on properties, they did not previously address rain barrels specifically. With “green” efforts expanding citywide, the IHPC has clarified the policies regarding rain barrel installation in historic districts. No certificate is needed if the barrel is to be located on the rear 2/3rd of the structure, not alter an architecturally significant gutter system and is not over four feet in height. Otherwise, a staff review and approval is required.

The goal of the policy is to allow owners to easily implement this “green” effort while maintaining the integrity of your historic streetscapes. If anyone requires assistance locating an appropriate location for a rain barrel on their property, staff is available to assist. We can be contacted at 327-4406. As always, we look forward to working with you and best wishes for a “green” Spring and Summer season!

Sincerely,

IHPC Staff

Volunteer Opp - KABOOM

Help Build Playgrounds for Schools 31 & 39

Hello Everyone! As you may be aware, School #39 (1733 Spann Ave.) in the SECO neighborhood was selected to receive a new Kaboom playground. Lilly is the corporate funding partner and is providing 175 volunteers on their May 20th Day of Service to build the playground. SEND is the lead community partner and we are coordinating the project locally. We are working with SECO on recruiting an additional 75 community volunteers. Which is where you come in! If any of you would be able to volunteer to help build the playground on May 20th or help out on prep day May 18th, please let me know. Breakfast and lunch are provided. I’ve outlined details below:
  • We need general volunteers on prep day May 18th to help unload the trucks, inventory supplies and prep site from 8am-4pm
  • We need Build Captains to manage a team of 10-20 volunteers for May 20th, Build Captains need to attend prep day on May 18th which is when they will receive training
  • We need general volunteers to help build the playground on May 20th

There is also a Kaboom playground being installed at School #31 in Bates Hendricks with Lilly on May 20th. We may direct some volunteers to that project depending on need. The dates and times are the same.

These are great opportunities for the Southeast and we appreciate any support you can provide. If you are interesting in helping out with this project, but can’t volunteer please contact me at jrice@sendcdc.org.

Thanks!!
