IndyGo announces Veterans Day schedule

On Tuesday, November 11, IndyGo will observe the Veterans Day holiday. All routes will remain on their regular schedules on Tuesday, November 11, except for minor detours during the Veterans Day Parade.

Administrative offices will be closed. The IndyGo Customer Service Center will have regular business hours.

For information about IndyGo’s routes and services, call the Customer Service Center at (317) 635-3344, or stop by the center at the Indianapolis City Market (main level near the Delaware Street entrance). You can also obtain information online at www.IndyGo.net.

Market St Exit Ramp Closure

"PROJECT OPEN MARKET" WORK BRINGS INTERSTATE RAMP CHANGES

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) will permanently close the northbound I-65/I-70 exit ramp to Market Street on Friday, October 10, at 7 p.m. Over the weekend, construction on the new northbound I-65/I-70 exit ramp to Washington Street will take place. The Market Street ramp has to be closed during this time in order to tie in the pavement for the new ramp into the existing interstate pavement. Then, on Monday, October 13, at 6 a.m., the new I-65/70 exit ramp to Washington Street will open. This means commuters will now use Washington Street to get downtown, instead of Market Street.

Other traffic changes are expected as work on Project Open Market progresses. DPW encourages residents and motorists to sign up for e-mail traffic alerts at www.indygov.org/dpw/openmarket

I-65/I-70 ramps to SE to change

Market Street Ramps to Close

Since the 1970s, the Market Street entrance and exit ramps to Interstates 65/70 have divided the near east side of Indianapolis. The ramps were built to accommodate traffic entering and exiting Market Square Arena (MSA). In July 2001, the city demolished MSA, leading the way for further development on the city's near east side and at the former MSA site.

Removal of the Market Street I-65/I-70 southbound entrance ramp will stimulate the revitalization and redevelopment on the city's near east side in the vicinity of the vacant MSA site. The steeply rising ramp extends from East Street to the interstate, a distance of three city blocks, dividing the neighborhood and providing a physical and visual barrier that reduces the potential for redevelopment in the area. The neighborhood east of the interstate has been somewhat separated from the central business district because of the ramp configurations.

The city of Indianapolis will remove the Market Street southbound entrance ramp and open up the city's near east side and the potential for redevelopment.
