Join IndyFringe for its first ever Hispanic FringeFriday featuring Hispanic food and music, plus a special performance of Las Nuevas Tamaleras from VIDA theatre group, based out of the IU Spanish department in Bloomington.
Las Nuevas Tamaleras (1990), by San Antonio playwright Alicia Mean, is a one act bilingual comedy that captures three young Chicanas in their first attempt to prepare tamales. Things get complicated when the spirits of Doña Juanita and Doña Mercedes appear and try, invisibly, to act as guides to the younger women. The play is about the importance of cultural memory, with the tamalada as connection point between the generations. But it is, first and foremost, a play about friendship and female solidarity.
FringeFriday is FREE and open to the public, but donations are encouraged! Cash bar.
