We're honored to be partnering with the Smithsonian's, Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum for the competition as we hope to encourage the next generation of designers and artists.

Welcome to Doodle 4 Google, a competition where we invite K-12 students to play around with our homepage logo and see what new designs they come up with. This year we're inviting U.S. kids to join in the doodling fun, around the intriguing theme "What I Wish for the World."

These are exciting times and both our country and the world are on the brink of significant change. At Google we believe in thinking big, and dreaming big, and we can't think of anything more important than encouraging students to do the same.

Registration closes at 11:59:59 PM Pacific time on March 17, 2009 and entries are due by 11:59:59 PM Pacific time on March 31, 2009. Teachers, you'll find everything you need to get started on the Registration page. Only teachers or school employees should register. Parents or students who are interested should contact their teacher to register them

IPS #20 Closure

IPS #20 Informational Meeting on School Closing

The community is invited to two meetings concerning the closing of School #20:

1) The first one will be a meeting for parents at Wheeler Arts Center on November 11th at 9:30 AM to discuss concerns in preparation for a meeting with Dr White.

2) The second meeting will be with IPS representatives and Dr. Eugene White on November 13th at IPS#20 (use Gym doors) at 7:00 PM.

Participants will be able to speak with faculty, students and corporate sponsors about the school’s unique work/study program that enables each student to earn a Core 40 or Honors Diploma and to build an impressive resume of job experience at major businesses in Indianapolis. Since 1993, the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) and United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) have been engaged in the Bridges To Success (BTS) initiative. In 2007, significant changes were made to focus the work of BTS on student academic achievement.

To support this new direction, Indianapolis Public Schools and United Way of Central Indiana are jointly establishing the IPS Community Education Forum as a way to increase collaboration between the district and the many community partners that influence the academic success of IPS children. If you have questions about the Community Education Forum, please contact Eric Williams at United Way of Central Indiana, 921-1252, eric.williams@uwci.org.

IPS BackPack Attack

The BackPack Attack is underway and Qdoba is doing a special promotion to help us out. On Tuesday July 1, any person who eats at Qdoba, and presents the attached coupon, 15% of their meal purchase price will go to the BackPack Attack (if you can't open the attachment, you can get it off of backpackattackindy.org ). It is a yummy and easy way to give to the children of IPS. So just print off the coupon, and go eat Mexican!

To achieve the goal of increased collaboration, each quarterly Community Education Forum will consist for four parts.

First, you will be introduced to senior staff members in the Indianapolis Public Schools. As a result, you will know the key people to contact about specific programs and activities in the district.

Second, you will learn about the major current initiatives and strategies of the district. With this knowledge, you will be able develop new programs in your organization that will support student academic success.

Third, you will receive critical information about recent and upcoming changes in the district. This information will assist you in planning for the changes that will affect the children, families, and communities that you serve.

Fourth, you will have an opportunity to talk with IPS staff members about specific opportunities for collaboration and make requests for information from the district. If several organizations make the same request, we will include this information in the next quarterly Forum.
