INDIANAPOLIS – (May 21, 2009) Indy Parks introduces Passport to the Pools, your guide to exploring aquatic facilities around Indianapolis! Pick up your free Passport to the Pools at any aquatic facility and be sure to have it stamped at each pool you visit this summer. Once your book is filled with a stamp from each facility, redeem it for one free admission to the Pirate Sand Adventure at Garfield Park Arts Center this summer!
Join Indy Parks this Saturday for opening day of the city’s outdoor pools! The facilities will be open Saturday, May 23, through Monday, May 25, weather permitting*. They will reopen on May 30 for the regular summer season through Aug. 9. Visit www.indyparks.org, call 327-PARK or pick up an Indy Parks Summer Fun Guide for details on hours, amenities and locations for each pool.
“Indy Parks is prepared and excited for what we anticipate to be a busy opening weekend,” said Indy Parks Senior Aquatics Manager Elaine Dillahunt. “We have a fully-staffed, exceptionally trained aquatics team ready to meet your summer recreational needs.”
Each year, Indy Parks hires more than 400 lifeguards and staff to help operate its outdoor and indoor aquatic facilities and the beach at Eagle Creek Park. The pools offer a variety of high-quality Red Cross water safety and swim instruction classes for all ages. Aquatic facilities feature water slides, spray features, and zero-depth entry areas for young children.
Admission to Indy Parks pools ranges from $1.50 to $5 for seniors and youth (ages 3-17) and $2.50 to $6 for adults ages 18-55. Indy Parks offers special “punch” cards that provide a 20 percent savings on regular pool admission rates. These Gator Passes can be purchased at select pools and customer service. A complete list of spray grounds, pool locations, and amenities is available in the 2009 Summer Fun Guides.
“This will be one of the warmest opening weekends in recent history,” Dillahunt said. “The pools are filled with cool water that we hope patrons will find refreshing.”
