New Grant Eligibility for Southeast

Eligibility and Requirement Changes for IMAGINE Announced

As of September 3, 2008, the GINI Engagement Working Group has made changes to the Eligibility and Requirements for IMAGINE. For the first time in the history of IMAGINE, neighborhoods within the 6 GINI Demonstration areas are eligible to apply for and receive IMAGINE funding, provided those organizations meet all other IMAGINE eligibility criteria. Also, all interested IMAGINE applicants are required to attend a Technical Assistance Session before submitting an IMAGINE Application. During the TA sessions, interested applicants will have an opportunity to learn more about the IMAGINE application process, connect with other applicants to brainstorm ideas, and hear from past IMAGINE recipients about their successes. The next TA sessions will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 on October 20th and November 17th. Both sessions will be at the Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center’s offices at 1802 N. Illinois Street.

This is the IMAGINE Grant pool that has over $60,000 available to any neighborhood group in Indy. You all were not allowed to apply for this until this vote in September. Please make your neighbors aware of this NEW grant available to them and make sure that they understand that in order for them to be eligible for it they must attend a TA session.

Strengthening, Developing, and Empowering Neighborhoods

Mayor Ballard is coming to visit

The Mayor is coming to the Southeast side!

Many of you may have heard of the “Mayor’s Night Out” program…and we are next to host Mayor Ballard and share with him our success stories and our concerns. This event will be held on Monday, October 27th, but please begin spreading the word now for your neighbors to save the date for this event.

The event will begin with a bus tour of our area for senior city officials and invited community leaders.

After the bus tour, there will be a Meet & Greet for civic leaders with Mayor Ballard followed by a question and answer session for Mayor Ballard and his Senior Staff. The question and answer session is open to the public and will begin at 6:00 pm. It is at this point that the public will have the opportunity to write down any questions they may have for the Mayor and his staff.

I would love for us to have a great showing for this event, so please save the date. I will get you more details later, as I confirm them.

Thank you for your willingness to be part of the excitement of the southeast side!

Why Politics? Getting youth involved

Why Politics? Getting youth involved

youth and adults between the ages of 14-22

IUPUI Information Technology (IT) Building

corner of West & Michigan

Saturday, October 11, 2008

1-3 PM

Food, entertainment, and politicians will be provided.

On Saturday October 11 the IUPUI Political Coordinating Committee are inviting all youth and adults between the ages of 14-22 to Why Politics?

In recent years, a number of organizations have taken on the task of inspiring young people to vote in the political process, among them Rock the Vote, and hip hop’s Vote Or Die.

Indeed, the fiercely fought presidential primaries and the current campaigns have inspired young voters. Yet, even when young people are not 18 they need to be encouraged to learn about the various political parties and their concerns, preparing themselves for the day they can cast a ballot. Democracy and politics will not work unless citizens, not matter what their age, get involved.

IUPUI student Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, and Greens political organizations have decided to put aside differences and formed the IUPUI Political Coordinating Committee in order to provide a forum to introduce youth to the world of politics.

Why Politics? will provide an opportunity for youth to become familiar with and possibly volunteer for the party or candidate of their choice. The event will provide the chance for young people to learn about the political and philosophical perspectives from representatives of the 4 major parties, and to meet citizens involved as party activists, party officials, or candidates.

The event will take place between 1-3:00 at the Information Technology (IT) Building at the corner of West and Michigan Streets. Food, entertainment, and politicians will be provided.

For more information contact campus republicans at summers8@iupui.edu and campus democrats at wgrout@iupui.edu.

Why Politics? is endorsed nationally by SoundOut.org, Americans for Informed Democracy, and Demos: A Network of Ideas and Action.

It is endorsed locally by the Marion County Green Party, Black & Latino Policy Institute, Democratic Education Consortium, Indianapolis Peace & Justice Center , the Student Alliance for Education, and the Hip-Hop Congress, Indianapolis Chapter.
