Educational Opportunity!

Educational Opportunity!

Purdue has designed a community leadership development program for Southeast residents. The program consists of a six week course that guides participants through leadership growth from the individual, group and community levels. A Certificate of Completion from Purdue will be awarded to those who successfully complete the program.

The class will meet on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings at SECS, 901 Shelby starting in late February. There is no charge to residents who would like to participate, but class size is limited. Please contact Jennifer Rice VonDeylen if you are interested. She can be reached at 634-5079 x107 or by email: Jennifer@sendcdc.org. This program is being sponsored by SECS, SECS and GINI.

Snow Removal

To all,

Please consider this a gentle remind for all of us to be good neighbors and clear the snow off the sidewalks at our locations. You may already know that this is the responsibility of the individual property or business owner.

I know full well that we could all drive or walk around our neighborhoods and see more that don’t do this than those who do, but let’s all become a model for our neighbors and those who drive down our streets.

I have heard from many of you and seen for myself the numbers of pedestrians that are forced to walk in the streets because many residents do not shovel their sidewalks. This presents our community with an opportunity to improve the neighborhoods in which we live.

Please take a few moments and, if you are able, shovel out our sidewalks. Be careful, of course, but working together, we can make our neighborhoods safer and more pleasant places to live and raise our families.

Thanks to each of you,

Dear Mr. Mayor

Please tell the Mayor how much we need this

Abdul's blog at www.indianabarrister.com, has put forth an idea we should all get behind since it calls for the efforts of the community instead of great monetary expenditures:

"The Mayor can endear himself to tons of parents by starting a citywide mentoring/tutoring/after-school program. He can partner with the areas colleges and universities to get the tutors and mentors and use local churches as after-school centers. The program can Monday-Friday from 3 p.m to 7 p.m., the time most kids are likely to get in trouble. Not only does the program reduce crime, but also helps improve the quality of education. "
