Food, entertainment, and politicians will be provided.
On Saturday October 11 the IUPUI Political Coordinating Committee are inviting all youth and adults between the ages of 14-22 to Why Politics?
In recent years, a number of organizations have taken on the task of inspiring young people to vote in the political process, among them Rock the Vote, and hip hop’s Vote Or Die.
Indeed, the fiercely fought presidential primaries and the current campaigns have inspired young voters. Yet, even when young people are not 18 they need to be encouraged to learn about the various political parties and their concerns, preparing themselves for the day they can cast a ballot. Democracy and politics will not work unless citizens, not matter what their age, get involved.
IUPUI student Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, and Greens political organizations have decided to put aside differences and formed the IUPUI Political Coordinating Committee in order to provide a forum to introduce youth to the world of politics.
Why Politics? will provide an opportunity for youth to become familiar with and possibly volunteer for the party or candidate of their choice. The event will provide the chance for young people to learn about the political and philosophical perspectives from representatives of the 4 major parties, and to meet citizens involved as party activists, party officials, or candidates.
The event will take place between 1-3:00 at the Information Technology (IT) Building at the corner of West and Michigan Streets. Food, entertainment, and politicians will be provided.
