Let’s play a game! What do country and western stars, robots and recycled wallpaper have in common?

“There’s a Room in My Head”. Come on; you didn’t get that?

“There’s a Room in My Head” canvas paintings by Mike Altman opens at AV Framing Gallery, Fountain Square on June 5, 2009.
This show takes a look at Altman's canvas paintings, exploring the world of music, some of which appear on recycled wallpaper.

“Mike Altman growing up never wanted to be anything but an artist... well, ok, maybe Batman for a while.” Altman uses simple line work and bold colors to illustrate a sometimes complex message. Altman's work can be laced with symbolism, satire, spirituality, and double-meanings. And then sometimes he just paints a picture of a blue cow that is... a blue cow…and of course some robots...

You will want to kick off summer with this celebration of the kid in all of us! Join us in June at AV Framing Gallery. And HURRY IN, this show is a short limited engagement of just 2 weeks!

ORDINARY COUPLES / EXTRAORDINARY LIVES
BY MARK LEE

Director: Mark A Lee
2008, 95 Minutes, USA
Created by Indianapolis photographer Mark A. Lee, Ordinary
Couples/ExtraOrdinary Lives! takes a look at 10 same sex
couples (5 male and 5 female) who have been together for 10
years or more. Filmed in front of a live audience at the Univer-
sity of Indianapolis, the couples have been together from 10
to 55 years. Each couple talks about everything from the
coming out process, to faith, raising families, and taking care
of your partner in the golden years, in a fun and entertaining
way. Gay and lesbian youth from IYG and Pike High School
helped do everything from building the set, to conducting the
individual interviews, and the actual filming. Background
music throughout the film is provided by local musicians John
Cannaday, Deb Mullens, Christopher "C-Ray" Ray, and the
Ensemble Voltaire, among others.

Front Porch Fridays

INRC's Front Porch Fridays

1802 N. Illinois St.

Remember a time when people met on their neighbor's front porch?

Relationships were built, resources were shared and results were obtained for the community.

INRC is bringing back this old time tradition this summer. Come share your neighborhood news, events, and stories over a tall glass of lemonade or ice cold sweet sun tea with neighbors from across the city. The atmosphere will be just right for conversation over a game of checkers, horseshoes, or cards with some old pals or new friends. Bring your lawn chairs and come join us as we meet our neighbors one Friday each month this summer:

June 5th, July 10th, and August 7th from 11:30-1:00pm at INRC.

Our June get together will feature conversations on the first chapter of the book, The Careless Society: Community and Its Counterfeits by John McKnight.

Podcast and hard copy of the chapter will be available on the INRC website at www.inrc.org next week, for more information or to RSVP call 920-0330 or namccormick@inrc.org.
